Well-being Champions

The Wellbeing Champions role is not a replacement for existing support within the school but an addition to the way we work. The support the Champions will provide to others will be at a very basic level and is a way of creating a positive ethos within our school in which children and young people are helped to support and think of others.  They will be supervised and supported by the Well-being Team.

Wellbeing Champions are young people who:

  • care about the mental health and wellbeing of those around them and want to make a difference
  • be able to support and help pupils new to the school to find new friends and settle in
  • can provide a listening ear to children who want to talk about something
  • are willing to develop their knowledge and understanding about mental health and well-being within the school so they can help other pupils
  • work with the well-being team to research what the school does well and what it could do better in relation to mental health and wellbeing of children
  • work with the well-being team to support and educate children about how they can look after their mental health and well-being
  • be willing to support other pupils in the school and help them to find solutions to some of their problems

What skills do you need to have?

  • Be passionate about Mental Health & Wellbeing
  • Be ready to make a difference by helping others
  • Want to be involved in new opportunities & create something positive
  • Be willing to learn new skills and undertake training after school
  • Be able to use your initiative and come up with ideas to improve the well-being of others
  • Be a good listener, patient and trustworthy
  • Be mature, sensible and sensitive to the needs of others

What do you need to do?

  • This role is open to children currently in Y3-Y6
  • You need to complete an application form and hand it to your teacher
  • If you are short-listed, you will be asked to take part in an interview.

Once you have been selected, you will be supervised and supported in helping others by Miss Ford and other members of the well-being team.
