Our School Ethos – Aiming to be our BEST

At D’Eyncourt Primary School, our whole‑school ethos is built around one simple, powerful message:

Aiming to be our BEST

B – Be Kind and Caring
E – Excel in Learning
S – Show Respect
T – Take on Challenges

These four values are at the heart of everything we do. They shape our culture, guide our decisions, and support every child to grow not only academically, but socially, emotionally and morally.

Our Ethos in Action

We are committed to creating a happy, safe and nurturing environment where children feel valued as individuals. Our ethos promotes kindness, care, respect and resilience—qualities that help children achieve their full potential and develop into confident, responsible young people.

Our BEST values support our whole‑school well‑being message. We want children to feel secure, to know they belong, and to understand that they have a voice. At D’Eyncourt, every child is recognised as a unique individual with their own talents and aspirations, and our teaching reflects this.

What BEST Means at D’Eyncourt?

Be Kind and Caring

We encourage children to be thoughtful, compassionate and supportive of others. Kindness is celebrated, modelled by staff, and woven into everyday interactions.

Excel in Learning

We believe all children can achieve success. Through high‑quality teaching, high expectations and a rich curriculum, pupils are encouraged to work hard, stay curious and embrace new learning opportunities.

Show Respect

Respect is central to our school community—respect for ourselves, for others, for our environment and for learning. Our shared moral values help create a culture where everyone feels valued and appreciated.

Take on Challenges

We develop resilient, confident learners who are not afraid to try, to fail, and to try again. Children learn that challenge is positive, effort matters, and perseverance leads to growth.

Celebrating BEST Across the School

Our values are celebrated and reinforced through weekly assemblies, where children receive the BEST Award for bringing these values to life. Whether through kindness, determination, effort, or respect, these achievements are recognised and applauded.

We are also proud to have BEST Ambassadors—Year 6 pupils who consistently demonstrate our values and act as positive role models throughout the school. They help to lead by example and inspire younger pupils to be their BEST every day.

A Community That Believes in Being Our BEST

Our BEST ethos brings together children, staff, families and governors in a shared commitment to be the very best we can be. It shapes who we are as a school and reflects the community we are proud to serve.

BEST Ambassadors

D’Eyncourt Primary School provides many opportunities for young people to develop their leadership and representation skills and we entrust pupils with roles and responsibilities around school. The BEST Ambassador role provides important benefits for both the pupil and the school. Year 5 pupils can apply to become BEST Ambassadors at the end of the academic year aiming to start their role at the beginning of Year 6. In June/July, any willing applicants write a letter of interest to the headteacher stating why they should be chosen to have one of the roles. Once all applications have been received, the current BEST Ambassadors choose the most promising application letters and then interviews commence.

BEST Ambassadors have the potential to influence the school environment and the behaviour of their fellow pupils by becoming advocates for positive change in the school community. It has been proven that when children actively participate in leadership in school life, and their ideas and opinions are listened to and valued, they feel respected and encouraged to make further contributions. The BEST Ambassadors are responsible to show our core values at all times. These are:

  • Being kind and caring
  • Excelling in learning
  • Showing respect
  • Taking on challenges

The school expects from these pupils:

  • A willingness to complete jobs and activities to support the school and to volunteer in key situations.
  • A sensible disposition and pleasant nature, allowing for good relationships with all members of the school family.
  • The ability to lead, to show initiative, to be level headed and honest in all situations.
  • To show care and consideration of others around school.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all age groups throughout school.

The BEST Ambassadors are responsible for:

  • Supporting staff during assembly, setting up the hall then sitting with the children and escorting Reception/ KS1 pupils to the toilet or reporting any children behaving well or misbehaving.
  • Supporting in the corridors after assembly and at lunchtime, ensuring children walk sensibly when not with a member of staff.
  • Helping in the dinner hall at lunchtime – helping children empty their plates, cut up food and pour drinks.
  • Complete tours for prospective parents on Open Evening in the Autumn Term.
  • Complete ‘Tidy Classroom’ weekly, going into each classroom and assessing how tidy it is that week.
  • Help out at whole school events including the Christmas Fayre.
  • Work with staff to decide on winners of in-school competitions.
  • Organise the donations from Wolves Foundation for families in need.

The children also have regular meetings with the headteacher to discuss their job and anything they have noticed.
