D’Eyncourt  Reading Festival of Fun

To celebrate World Book Day on March 6th, we hosted an exciting week filled with Reading Festival activities, bringing our school community together in a love of books!

We kicked off the festivities with a Travelling Book Fair, which was open every evening after school. The fair featured a wide selection of new titles alongside old favourites, providing something for everyone. A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who supported the event—it was a great success! At the time of writing, the fair had raised over £1500, which means we now have £900 to spend on new books for our school library! This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without your support.

But the reading fun didn’t stop there! We also held a “Get Caught Reading” competition, challenging everyone to be spotted reading in unexpected places. Our students and their families showed incredible creativity, submitting fantastic photos of children reading in imaginative and quirky scenes. Congratulations to all our winners!

Thursday was the highlight of the week, with World Book Day celebrations in full swing. The theme for this year’s event was “Read Your Way”, and we had an array of activities for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The entire school transformed into a vibrant parade of storybook characters! From wizards and princesses to pirates and more, it was a sight to behold. A big thank you to all the parents and carers who helped create, buy, or make costumes—your efforts brought these characters to life and made the day extra special.

We wrapped up the week with the opening of our Book Swap Shop. Children who brought in an old book had the opportunity to exchange it for a new one to enjoy, giving their book a second life while discovering something fresh. It was a great way to share the joy of reading with one another.

All in all, it was a fantastic week of celebrating the magic of books and the joy of getting lost in their pages. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this event so memorable!
